Where animals live

Homes are all different
Animals live in all sorts of places. A fish lives in water. A bird might live in a nest in a tree. A rabbit lives in a burrow under the ground. A bee lives in a hive, sharing it with thousands of other bees. A spider makes a web. Each home suits the animal that made it.
What every animal needs
Every animal needs the same few things, wherever it lives. FOOD to eat. WATER to drink. Somewhere SAFE to hide. And space to move about in. If a place has all of those, an animal can live there. If one is missing, the animal has to go somewhere else to find it.
The right home
A fish cannot live in a tree. A bird cannot live underwater. Each animal fits the place it lives in. A fish has fins for swimming. It has gills for breathing in water. A bird has wings and light bones. Look at an animal carefully. It often tells you where it lives.
A penguin has thick fat and dense feathers. Those are for cold water. And it eats fish. Now put a penguin in a hot desert. There is no water to swim in. There are no fish to eat. And its thick coat would cook it. Now put a camel in Antarctica. Its wide feet are made for sand. It stores fat for long dry journeys. And it has no fat layer for the cold. Neither animal is doing anything wrong. The PLACE cannot give them what they need.
